It’s in the name of our company. It’s right there in the name of this blog. In the future there’s going to be a lot of talk about the Ultimate this and the Ultimate that. We call our products Ultimate, but what does it mean? Before you roll your eyes and decide it’s just another word thrown around like “best”, “superior” or “premium”, let us explain just what we mean when we call something “Ultimate”.
It’s about the ideas
Everything Ultimate starts with an idea. And the idea starts with our founder, Craig Nelson, needing a solution where one does not exist. He’s always looking for ways to make the everyday, ordinary, just-ok solutions not just better, but the best. The best at organizing. The best at saving time. The best at making a workspace a productive place to be.
You’ve been to office supply stores and seen row after row of folders, white boards and binders. There are a few kinds, a few colors, a zipper here, a snap there. We bet you’ve owned a few. Or a few dozen. What does this multitude of desk trays, organizers and hanging files have in common? If you’ve see one, you’ve seen ‘em all – and no matter how many you own, you always find yourself trying another one. And then another one. And maybe just one more. But however many ideas you try, there’s something not quite satisfying about them and off you go looking for the next solution.
Craig’s with you. He can’t stand those one-size-fits-all, puny-brained ideas. He wants stuff that works. Stuff that fits his lifestyle. Stuff that fits yours, because it’s so smart and modular and useful that anyone can take his ideas and create organizing solutions that work just the way they want them to.
Ultimate ideas mean that you can stop searching for the next best solution, because, as Craig always says, “We do it Ultimate, or we don’t do it at all!”
It’s about the engineering

Walt's engineering notes show just how a product should work.
Every seam, every joint, every edge and connector and bolt is scrutinized by our super brainy chief engineer, Walter Watanabe. Walter takes Craig’s ideas and turns them into meticulously detailed specifications so each and every product is beautiful, durable and precisely engineered.
This guy’s all over the specs before a product goes to press and he pokes, prods and tweaks as soon as it’s hot off. Not so much as a stitch in the binding of a pocket folder gets by him if it isn’t perfect. So by the time a product gets to you, it’s already been tested and meets the highest standards – not just Walter’s, but everyone’s at Ultimate Office plus friends and family whose sole job it is to find something to complain about. They fail. And Ultimate products are born.
It’s about the materials
How many manila folders have you gone through in your lifetime? How many trees have sacrificed themselves to make those hanging files you throw out every year when they fall apart and the edges fray and you can no longer read the label through the scratched and fuzzy (and blindingly tiny) plastic tab?

PortaFile™ file jackets are durable and color coded for easy organizing.
Ultimate products are not built to be disposable. They are built to last. They are built to save you money because you won’t be replacing them every year. They are built to save you time because you won’t be transferring your files to new folders every time one falls apart.
And it’s not just about the folders. Every Ultimate product is built to have staying power. They’re built to be used and reused. They’re durable, sturdy and can stand up to even the most enthusiastic organizer’s daily chores. And that’s the Ultimate guarantee.
It’s about the service
Ok, sometimes stuff goes wrong. We’re Ultimate, but we’re not perfect. But we stand behind everything we do, so if something does go wrong, or even if you just change your mind, you can call Ed Bauer, our practically inhumanly friendly and helpful customer service manager who will be so friendly and helpful that you’ll probably want to send him a cookie or something.
Seriously, though, being Ultimate doesn’t just stop at creating great products. It’s a total mindset, and we’re ready and available to help you with anything you need. Most of us are even as nice as Ed.
It’s about the experience
Does it save you time? Will it save you money? Is it the best it can be? Are we the best we can be? Being Ultimate means that the answer to every one of those questions is yes.
We’re passionate about our products, we’re passionate about our people, and we’re passionate about helping our customers create a lifestyle and a workspace that makes it so easy to get to work that you can quickly get back to playing, spending time with your family and pursuing your hobbies and dreams. Being Ultimate means taking the “overwhelmed” and “overworked” out of your day and putting the Zen back in.
Being Ultimate is an idea that we hope you’ll share with us, so why not start right now, and tell us… what does being Ultimate mean to you?
